More Efficient Mike Kavis, BPMInstitute
Website and Newsletter, November
12, 2008. In the early 1990’s, CERN understood how critical
business process automation was to the success of their
mission. With employees and contractors coming in and out of
the organization frequently as new projects started and existing
projects completed, CERN needed to make business processes in the
area of human resources, logistics, and procurement easier and more
efficient so the workers could spend more time solving problems and
less time on administrative tasks.

Information Management: Myths and
Facts Lalitha Chikkatur, DM Review Newsletter
and Website, December 30,
2008 As
information management is gaining acceptance, good governance is
becoming even more critical for the whole process of retrieval,
acquisition, organization and maintenance of information. The
crucial factor in information and decision process analysis is an
improved design-thinking attitude. Only when decision-makers use a
good process and methodology for making decisions under limited
circumstances can people’s information management needs and desires
can be made technologically feasible. Because all the information
ultimately is managed by individuals, wherever there is human
intervention conflicts between facts and myths exist. I have come
across the following eight myths in information management.

Offshoring May Be Overblown; IT
Shortage Is Too Donald
Sears,
eWeeks Careers Magazine and Website, November 17,
2008. The case
for off-shoring may be more hype than reality when it comes to
off-shoring. The basic argument is that as a measure against the
total of IT budgets, off-shoring is still a minor piece of IT
management on an annual basis.

What Does the Future Hold for the IT Services
Industry Stephanie Overby, CIO Magazine and Website, December
18, 2008. Companies

December 15, 2008 Outsourcing

What Effect Will President-elect Obama Have on
Outsourcing? Scott Staples, CIO Newsletter and
Website, December 5,
2008. The
offshore outsourcing world has its eyes on the U.S. economic crisis,

Designing Profitable Products Using QFD and Kano
Model Saeed Biglarbeigi, iSixSigma Newsletter and Website, December 15,
2008. Considering customer satisfaction levels when
creating a product is not an easy process. Many Six Sigma
practitioners use the quality function deployment (QFD) tool to
translate the voice of the customer (VOC) into product
specifications. QFD offers a customer-oriented approach, supporting
design teams in developing new products based on an assessment of
customer needs. Customer needs are translated into desirable design
attributes using the house of quality model, and then deployed in
process and quality requirements.
Assess Opportunities and Risks to Maximize
Projects Walter F. Brown, ISixSigma Newsletter and
Website, December 18,
2008. The
astute Black Belt must be aware of all the ramifications of the
changes that may be involved in a project, and be careful not to
adversely affect any downstream operations or to miss out on
opportunities to apply improvements. This is easier said than done,
and the difficulty is directly proportional to the size of the
organization or company. One tool used to focus on the risks and
benefits associated with a process change is the Improvements,
Challenges, Opportunities, Risks (ICOR) Analysis. The approach melds
risk management practices with the Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, a strategic planning
method.
Building Cultural Acceptance Key to Lean
Transformation Tom Cluley, iSixSigma Newsletter and Website, December 11,
2008. Successful
transformation to a continuous process improvement culture is
arduous. It requires an enterprise approach that engages the entire
organization and challenges its norms. It requires knowledge of new
tools and methodologies, and a level of internal discipline beyond
that in which most organizations operate. Why does Lean work in some
organizations and not in others? In short, the difference between
success and failure is in cultural acceptance and the ability of an
organization to accept change, not just Lean change, but change in
general.

Career in Indian LPO: A Problem of
Perception? ValueNotes Outsourcing Weekly Newsletter and Website, December 24,
2008. A career
with an Indian LPO was the least preferred among law students,
according to a recent survey conducted by ValueNotes. This is
despite the fact that 45% of respondents felt that the pay package
at an LPO was better as compared to the pay package at law firms.
While there has been significant media hype about legal services
outsourcing, it was surprising that a large number of students
pursuing law were either unaware of offshore legal services (better
known as LPO) or they did not consider it as a preferred career
choice.
