experiences in their work as consultants where IT projects have gone
disastrously awry, costing organizations untold amounts of time and

in such projects.
A Systems Approach to Business Process
Management Dr. Raj Ramesh, Business Cybernetics LLC, BPM
Institute Website and Newsletter, November 20,
2007. I have come across businesses where some problems are
chronic. In other words, these problems have existed for a long time
but nobody attempts to fix them because they are thought to be
“unfixable.” I have also come across businesses where problems are
approached with a quick-fix mentality. In many cases, the same
business may have a class of chronic problems as well as quick fix
problems. Those that are perceived to be difficult take a long time
to fix or are never fixed, while those that are perceived to be
quick fixes are fixed immediately, but with no context. Both
approaches may lead to worsening conditions.

focus on the automation of business process through the use of BPM

Knowledge Transfer Is the Key to Lean Six Sigma
Culture Bryan
Carey, Barbara McConnell, DeLeeuw
Associates,
iSixSigma Financial Services Website and Newsletter, November
14, 2007. Whether a company uses consultants to execute Lean Six Sigma
or has trained its own experts, certain things must be done to move
from a Lean capacity to a Lean culture. Knowledge transfer may be
the most important. A successful knowledge transfer is often
dependant upon issues and items beyond the scope of the project. The
organization should identify and leverage those issues (such as
management practices, reward systems, current human resources
systems and policies) that go beyond tools and are change management
related.

Adoption within the

Batty,
Maxager, DMReview Website and Newsletter, November 20 , 2007.
(Free Registration May be Needed) The plethora of different systems

this day.

The Second Decade Of Offshore
Outsourcing: Where We're Headed Mary Hayes-Weier, InformationWeek
Newsletter and
Website, November 3, 2007. Execs now prefer to call it 'globalization.'
Whatever the name, it's gaining steam and bringing new risks and
requiring new strategies.
Offshore Call Centers Get a Bad Rap… and Other
Thoughts Stephanie Overby, CIO Insider Newsletter and Website, November 16,
2007. I had
a candid conversation with a IT/BPO services company CEO yesterday.
These calls fall into two camps. Either the CEO sounds like he's
reading from a press release and has a ready (and boring) answer to
every question or he lets down his guard and we have an actual human
conversation that's enlightening or funny or just plain old
enjoyable. This call was actually the latter.
Offshore Outsourcing: Can This Captive Center Be
Saved? Stephanie Overby, CIO Insider Newsletter and
Website, November 8,
2007. Executives
with captive centers in India are starting to wonder whether it's
time to offload their offshore assets as GE did and Citigroup is
reportedly doing. But Cliff Justice, an expert at EquaTerra, says
that most captive data centers can be fixed.
Currency Risk : Overcoming the
Dollar's Demise NeoIT Research Report Newsletter and Website, July,

Destination ValueNotes Newsletter and Website, November 14,
2007. Large

$42 million in 2006, according to a report by ICTA (Information

Analytics: The Secret to Performance
Management Jean-Francois Huard, BIReview Newsletter and Website, November 8,
2007. For
years, scientists have used mathematical analysis techniques to
understand the behavior of things and events. Just as scientists
rely on real-time analytics to track a hurricane, visionary IT
professionals are adopting these technologies to safeguard the
health of critical IT systems and associated business services. The
use of analytics is helping organizations shift from a reactionary
model to more of a proactive and preventative one. By applying
real-time analytics technology that self-learns, companies can now
forecast application and service behavior before problems even
occur.

2007. The subprime mortgage mess wending its ugly way
through the world's largest banks has not yet significantly affected
the Indian offshore industry, said experts on both sides of the
ocean. But that could change if the housing slump triggers a broader
recession, forcing price adjustments, contract delays and changes in
personnel from Indian providers doing business with U.S.
companies.
